The Phone Which Folds Backwards "Huawei Mate x"

After the ban on Huawei by the US government. Although it is expected to be sold less but Huawei sales just in China have crossed the world-wide sales this year which is record breaking.

One of the leading smartphone brands in the world "Huawei" has teased its foldable phone "MATE X" which folds horizontally. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy fold it folds outwards which means other half part folds backwards. It has been a month and a half since the release of Mate X in China. The Huawei Mate X with its superb specs is expected to be successful if released worldwide.

Coming to the specs of MATE X:

Build Dynamics:

Firstly, this is the first folding phone with folds backward. Secondly, it has the biggest screen in any foldable phones when folded. Primarily it is the perfect design to use the device both as a phone and as a tablet.
There is no headphone jack. Also, there is no Gorilla Glass protection as expected as it is a foldable device and it has a glass back and is exposed only when the device is unfolded.
It weighs around 295 grams and measures 161.3 x 78.3 x 11 mm when folded and when unfolded it measures 161.3 x 146.2 x 5.4 mm.


The PLASTIC OLED (P-OLED) display when folded becomes 6.6 inches with the resolution of 1148 x 2480 pixels. The same P-OLED display opens up to become an 8 inches display with a resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels. This convert to a pixel density of 414 ppi and a screen to body ratio of 86.9%.


It has a total of three cameras. All the three cameras are developed by Leica optics.
The primary camera is of 48 MP with f 1.7 aperture which is a PDAF wide angle lens and the second camera is of 8 MP with f 2.4 aperture which is a telephoto lens and the third camera is of 16 MP with an aperture of f 2.2 which is a ultra wide lens and lastly fourth camera is a TOF 3D camera.

A Dual LED dual tone flash is included with this phone. Finally, we can record upto 4K @ 60fps with this device.
The main feature is that we can use the main camera as front camera.


It is powered by the Kirin 980 chipset (7 nm) and Mali GPU. It has an internal storage of 512 GB and is expandable upto 256 GB with micro SD card slot. It houses RAM of 8GB.
Due to Huawei ban by the US government, it wouldn't be having pre-installed Google apps or play store. Therefore the users need to download apps from other sources.


It has an enormous 4500 mah battery which is a lithium polymer battery. Although, it has a huge battery it comes with a 55 W Huawei supercharging which charges to 100% in just 30 to 35 minutes.

Additional Features:

Other common features include Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. The main feature is that it houses an IR Blaster on the top. Additionally, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner is included. One more feature to be noticed is that it comes with USB 3.1 TYPE-C support. It comes with hybrid sim one e-sim and one nano Sim.

Extra Bytes:

It is the thinnest foldable device till date, at 5.4 mm when unfolded and just 11 mm when folded (6 mm less than Samsung fold). When folded it has an almost squared up aspect ratio. One of the most popular and famous Leica optics provides the cameras for the Mate X. Since the front display is a plastic one and is exposed even when folded,the durability is highly doubted. Also there is no water and dust resistance rating.


It is expected to be available in only one colour initially which is Interstellar Blue. Lastly, it is price at $2600 roughly 2,43,700 rupees.
